Monday, 1 January 2024
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed Monday that he is in direct touch with Ulfa (Independent) chief Paresh Baruah but made it clear that negotiations with his outfit are unlikely soon. "I usually talk to him every three or six months. I plan to speak to him again in the next six to seven days. No chief minister had talked to him earlier," Sarma said, days after he chaperoned efforts for Ulfa's pro-talks faction to sign an accord with the Centre. The CM emphasised that as the political head of the state, it was his job to reach out to Baruah.
