The upcoming election in Bangladesh has had a significant impact on the border markets in Bengal, resulting in a decline in trade. The markets, such as Motiganj Bazar in Bongaon, Taw Bazar, and Batar More, which are usually bustling with Bangladeshi traders and tourists, have become listless. The election-related restrictions and the slow business activities on the other side of the border have affected trade in this area as well. The economic activity in the entire belt, including roadside eateries, tea stalls, guest houses, and transportation services, has taken a hit due to the elections.
