'51% rise in aircraft induction by Indian carriers in 2023 over 2022': DGCA

IndiaTimes Thursday, 4 January 2024
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) allowed Indian carriers to wet lease 21 aircraft without operating crew to keep airfares in check. The 16 scheduled Indian carriers had 771 planes on December 31, 2023. In 2023, 112 aircraft were inducted into the fleet, a 38% increase from the previous year. With the wet/damp lease aircraft, the total induction of aircraft stands at 133, a 51% increase from 2022. This has resulted in enhanced network coverage, connectivity, and lower fares during the festive season.
