After seven years, 2023 bucks the declining trend in PM2.5 in Delhi

IndiaTimes Friday, 5 January 2024
Delhi's annual PM2.5 levels saw a 2% increase in 2023, interrupting the previous decline. Despite meeting the air quality standards for 151 days, the city experienced a significant decrease in 'good' air days compared to 2022. The winter of 2023 had the highest number of smog episodes in the past six years, indicating a consistent period of poor air quality. The worsening meteorological conditions, including low wind speed, contributed to the high pollution levels. To address this, sustained action is needed to reduce vehicular emissions, transition to clean fuels, and eliminate waste burning.
