As a precautionary measure, Kolkata police launched a search operation at the over 200-year-old establishment. ​​The bomb squad from Kolkata Police conducted a thorough search and sanitization operation within the museum premises. Founded in 1814, the Indian Museum holds the distinction of being not only the oldest but also the largest multipurpose museum in the Indian subcontinent and the Asia-Pacific region, as stated on its official website.
