IndiaTimes Friday, 5 January 2024
The Centre has advised all AIIMS, PGIMER, JIPMER and other Institutes of National Importance (INIs) to replace unhealthy diets and beverages with healthier alternatives. The government suggests fresh fruits, vegetables, millets, and whole grains. Non-communicable diseases (NCD) account for 63% of all deaths in the country, with cardiovascular diseases leading at 27%. Unhealthy diets and sugary beverages contribute to the increasing NCD burden. Last year, the DGHS called for a ban on alcohol consumption at medical conferences due to its link to various diseases and injuries.
