The Central Hall of Parliament on Friday hosted more than 500 elected women representatives from across the country, including 'sarpanches' from panchayats and urban local bodies who had come together to participate in a day long training session - 'Panchayat Se Parliament Tak'. Addressing them, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla referred to the Nari Shakti Vandan Act and said, "The purpose of the legislation, to reserve one-third of the total seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislatures for women, will prove to be a gamechanger in bringing women to leadership roles in the decision-making process."
