Saturday, 6 January 2024
State health minister Tanaji Sawant claimed that over 90% people of future generations from several districts of Maharashtra and Karnataka might be vulnerable to cancer due to the polluted water of Ujani dam. The dam is supplied with water polluted by industrial effluents from Pune and nearby areas through the Mula and Mutha rivers. Sawant also highlighted the excessive use of chemicals by farmers in Punjab and in Maharashtra as a root cause of cancer cases. He expressed concerns about the lack of response from municipal commissioners in addressing health issues and requested the chief minister to bring hospitals in the municipal corporation limits under his department.
