Bilkis Bano case: SC verdict on release of 11 convicts today
The Supreme Court is set to announce its verdict on a batch of petitions seeking to overturn the Gujarat government's decision to remit the sentences of 11 convicts involved in the gang rape of Bilkis Bano and the murder of 14 members of her family during the 2002 communal riots. The court heard arguments from all parties, including the convicts, and questioned the selective implementation of the remission policy. Bilkis herself filed one of the petitions, arguing that the convicts did not deserve leniency and had shown no remorse.
