SC stays Bombay HC order directing bypoll for Pune LS seat, but pulls up EC for lethargy
Monday, 8 January 2024 Supreme Court on Monday stayed a Bombay high court order directing holding of immediate bypolls to a PuneLok Sabha seat that fell vacant in March last year due to MP Girish Bapat's death, but took exception to Election Commission's lethargy in acting with alacrity to provide representation to people of the constituency. Bombay HC on December 13 had directed EC to immediately hold bye-elections to a Pune Lok Sabha seat while asking the commission how it had conducted bypolls for constituencies which fell vacant after March.
