India nominates three cities for global wetland recommendation
Wednesday, 10 January 2024 India has submitted nominations of three cities - Indore, Bhopal and Udaipur - for Wetland City Accreditation (WCA) under the Ramsar Convention. The accreditation is granted to cities that satisfy international criteria, including having Ramsar sites within their jurisdiction and implementing exceptional conservation measures. The environment ministry highlighted the benefits of wetlands in and around these cities, such as flood regulation, livelihood opportunities, and recreational values. Currently, 75 wetlands in India are protected under the Ramsar Convention.
Jitendra Vaidya, President of the Indian People's Forum in the UAE, has resided in the UAE for the past 26 years and is originally from Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
