The Supreme Court rejected a plea seeking urgent implementation of the women's reservation law for a 33% quota in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The petitioner, advocate Yogamaya MG, was directed to file an intervention petition in a pending PIL filed by Congress leader Jaya Thakur. The court granted Yogamaya the liberty to withdraw her plea, which she did. Jaya Thakur's petition is expected to be listed on January 16. The Women's Reservation Act, 2023, mandates one-third of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women but will be implemented after a new census and delimitation process.
