When ‘Ramayan’ first went on air in January 1987, even director-producer Ramanand Sagar didn’t anticipate the response it would get. Telecast every Sunday morning, it went on to become the most watched television show in history. Entire streets would be deserted, shops would close, people would postpone appointments and garland their TV sets before the serial began. You could have mistakenly stepped back in time. Its 2024 and ‘Shrimad Ramayana’, a TV show featuring a fresh-faced Ram and Sita is hoping to revive the ’80s nostalgia.
