Government steps up Ayushman drive, 30 crore cards issued till January 12

With Lok Sabha polls round the corner, the Centre has stepped up enrolment under the Ayushman Bharat - PM Jan Arogya Yojana or AB-PMJAY - the flagship health scheme of the BJP-led government which intends to provide health coverage of Rs 5 lakh to over 60 crore beneficiaries identified based on select deprivation, and occupational criteria, in rural and urban areas respectively, as per SECC database of 2011. As on Jan 12, 30 crore intended beneficiaries have been issued Ayushman cards, according to government data.
