Chandigarh MC polls deferred to Feb 6 after presiding officer falls sick

IndiaTimes Thursday, 18 January 2024
The scheduled mayoral polls in Chandigarh, originally planned for Thursday, faced an unexpected postponement to February 6 due to the sudden illness of the presiding officer. This decision sparked protests from Congress and AAP councillors, who, in a coalition for the mayoral polls, criticized the BJP for allegedly obstructing the election process to prevent an anticipated defeat. Subsequently, the AAP took the matter to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which issued notices to the Chandigarh administration and municipal corporation.
