'Let us all unite for victory': Akhilesh Yadav announces alliance with Jayant Chaudhary's RLD in UP for 2024 Lok Sabha elections
Friday, 19 January 2024 The Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal have announced an alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh. The RLD will contest 7 seats in western UP. It will be interesting to see how the Congress reacts to this announcement. Already the opposition space in UP is divided with Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party announcing that it will contest Lok Sabha elections without any alliance.
Baghpat's Political Battleground: Regional Forces Clash in High-Stakes Triangular Contest. Baghpat Lok Sabha Constituency is a significant political region in Uttar Pradesh. Baghpat is one of the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh and voting will take place in the second phase on April 26.
In Baghpat Lok Sabha constituency, a three-way contest is shaping up between RLD's Raj Kumar Sagwan, SP's Amarpal Sharma and BSP's Praveen Bansal. The constituency, comprising Siwalkhas, Chhaprauli, Baraut, Baghpat, and Modi Nagar Assembly segments, witnesses a clash of regional parties vying for electoral supremacy.
Sagwan is known for his connect with grassroots politics and was involved in student and farmer politics. He was associated with several agitations. He claims to have joined politics after being “inspired by Chaudhary Charan Singh”. On April 28, the Election Commission of India (ECI) directed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to revise the content of its Lok Sabha campaign song to adhere to the Advertising Codes outlined in the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, and ECI guidelines. The AAP was requested to make necessary modifications to the song and resubmit it for certification. “The phrase “jail ke jawaab me hum vote denge” showing an aggressive mob holding the photo of Arvind Kejriwal showing him behind bars, casts aspersions on the Judiciary. Further, the said phrase appears several times in the advertisement which contravenes the provisions of ECI Guidelines and Rule 6(1(g) of Programme and Advertising Codes prescribed under the Cable Television Network Rules, 1994” (DISPLAY) said ECI.
