Friday, 19 January 2024 Haryana's BJP government releases Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh on 50-day parole ahead of parliamentary elections. This is the second release in two months and seventh in two years. Ram Rahim applied under the Haryana Good Conduct Prisoners (Temporary Release) Act, 2022 for parole at Dera's ashram in Baghpat, UP.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted of conspiring to m-urder Ranjit Singh, former manager of Dera Sacha Sauda, in 2002, due to a controversial letter about s-exual exploitation. In October 2021, Ram Rahim and four others received life sentences. Additionally, Ram Rahim was convicted for the mu-rder of journalist Chhatrapati and is serving a 20-year term for r-aping disciples. Parole requires permission.

In a devastating road accident today, at least 18 people lost their lives and many others were injured after the bus they were travelling in collided with another vehicle in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh. Among the deceased were three women and one child, police reported. The double-decker bus, which was en route from Biharβs Sitamarhi to Delhi, crashed into a milk tanker from behind on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway early this morning. The force of the collision was immense, causing several passengers to be flung out of the bus, police stated.
