Professor loses Rs 3 lakh in 'stock trading' fraud in Ahmedabad
Saturday, 20 January 2024 A 47-year-old professor from a private university in the city filed a complaint with the Cybercrime police, alleging that cyberfraudsters duped her of Rs 3.31 lakh under the guise of stock trading. Swati Modi, residing in Bodakdev, stated in her FIR that she responded to a Facebook advertisement on stock trading, leading her to join a WhatsApp group. Following instructions from the group admin, she deposited Rs 2.40 lakh for trading on an app called 'CHS-SES.' Despite the app initially showing a profit of around Rs 1 lakh, attempts to withdraw the money revealed additional 'tax' payments demanded by the fraudsters. Eventually, she paid Rs 3.31 lakh, resulting in no returns. The complaint includes charges of breach of trust, cheating, and criminal conspiracy under the IPC, along with violations of the IT Act.
