Monday, 22 January 2024 Police personnel were deployed outside the Jamia Millia Islamia on Monday as a precaution after a video of two to three students raising slogans such as "Strike for Babri" surfaced online, officials said. The deployment came on the day of the consecration of the new idol of Ram Lalla at the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The temple has been built at the site where the 16th Century Babri Masjid once stood, before being demolished by a frenzied mob of 'karsevaks' in 1992.
The Delhi High Court granted bail to activist Sharjeel Imam in a sedition and UAPA case related to inflammatory speeches at Jamia and AMU. Imam has served half of his sentence but remains jailed due to another case involving the 2020 Delhi riots. His speeches, while not directly inciting violence, were deemed to have mobilized public unrest leading to the riots.

Gandhi was addressing party workers days after the Congress and BJP clashed outside the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) office when saffron party workers went there to protest against his (Gandhi's) remarks on Hindus.
