In Aug 2020, doctors at Lucknow's Base Hospital told Brigadier NS Chaarag he may never again be able to cycle, leaving him heartbroken. He had landed in hospital after a hit-and-run accident in Ranchi on Aug 1 that had left both his legs fractured and intestines ruptured, besides multiple injuries in the pelvis.
