Snowless Gulmarg hits the skids, local cricket takes guard

Snow has stayed off the field in Gulmarg, sending skiing, tourism and livelihoods for a six while inviting local cricket to take guard on its sterile slopes. Such is the impact of climate change in the famed ski resort that hotel manager Altaf Ahmad stares wistfully these days at boys playing cricket in the dry meadows, missing the teeming fur-coated tourists that usually swarmed the fairytale icy heights at this time of the year.
