The idea of an ultimate court of appeal for then undivided India came from distinguished lawyer, power and parliamentarian Hari Singh Gaur, who mooted this proposal in the central legislative assembly shortly after its first sitting in 1921, nearly 103 years ago.The proposal drew immediate whole-hearted support from another eminent lawyer Mohd Ali Jinnah but two other distinguished lawyers Motilal Nehru and Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru opposed it.
