Unbridled infrastructure buildup, not NTPC induced Joshimath subsidence: GSI

IndiaTimes Monday, 29 January 2024
Widespread ground subsidence of January 2023 that damaged 65% of houses in the pilgrim town of Joshimath in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district was induced by “unregulated infrastructure development in the form of high-rise buildings” as well as “disturbance to the natural drainage system” in the fragile mountain and not by NTPC’s hydel project, according to the Geological Survey of India (GSI).
