'Kolhan Tiger':Champai Soren, 6th-term MLA, minister thrice
Wednesday, 31 January 2024 Arjun Munda, Madhu Koda, Raghubar Das, and now Champai Soren - Jharkhand's mineral-rich Kolhan division has sprung its fourth CM in the state's 23 years of political history.Champai, aged 68, is a six-term MLA representing Seraikela (ST reserve) constituency in Seraikela-Kharsawan district. He entered the Bihar assembly for the first time as an independent legislator in 1991 and has since retained the seat, except for a loss in 2000 to Anantram Tudu of BJP.
Champai Soren is set to assume the role of Jharkhand Chief Minister, replacing Hemant Soren, as announced by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Wednesday.
