Saturday, 6 April 2024 On Saturday, Ernakulam Rural police detained ten people in connection with the death of migrant worker Asok Das (32). Das died after being beaten by a crowd on Thursday night. The suspects were brought into custody on Friday, and their detention was registered after police changed the sections of the FIR to include murder accusations.
The Monsoon has created havoc across India, with Mumbai recording extremely heavy rainfall, the water level of the Saryu river rising in Ayodhya, an orange alert issued for Karnataka, and Assam grappling with floods again. India has taken a tit-for-tat step in response to China by approving the renaming of 30 places in Tibet. This move is seen as a strong rebuttal to China's decision to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh. The renaming initiative by the Indian government comes in the wake of heightened tensions between India and China, particularly following the violent clash in the Pangong Tso area in eastern Ladakh on May 5, 2020. Since then, the two nations have engaged in 21 rounds of military talks to address the standoff but are yet to reach a comprehensive resolution.
