'Kanyadaan' not essential under Hindu Marriage Act, 'saptapadi' is, says HC

The Allahabad high court has ruled that 'Kanyadaan' is not required for the solemnisation of a marriage under the Hindu Marriage Act. Only 'saptapadi' (the Sanskrit for'saat phere') is an essential rite of such a marriage, observed the Lucknow High Court bench while hearing a revision appeal filed by Ashutosh Yadav.
