Capt Sekhar Ghosh was a valiant officer born on September 27, 1975, in Barrackpore, West Bengal. The son of an army veteran, late Lt Col Shankar Nath Ghosh and Smt Ira Ghosh, he grew up with a deep sense of patriotism. Capt Sekhar pursued his passion for the military by joining IMA. He was commissioned into the Army Service Corps in December 1997 and later served with the 2 Sikh Infantry Battalion in Jammu & Kashmir.
Capt Sekhar Ghosh was known for his exceptional soldierly skills and leadership. He was awarded the Best Young Officer's Trophy in 1999 and a COAS Commendation Card in 2000 for his outstanding performance. His bravery and commitment were most evident during a counter-insurgency operation in Rajouri, J&K, in August 2000. Leading his troops in a fierce battle against terrorists, Capt Sekhar displayed extraordinary courage, eliminating multiple terrorists and saving his comrades. Tragically, he was martyred during the operation on August 12, 2000, just shy of his 25th birthday. For his supreme sacrifice and valour, Capt Sekhar Ghosh was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra, one of India's highest gallantry awards. He is remembered as a true hero, leaving behind a legacy of courage and dedication to the nation.

Since August 5, the Petrapole border between India and Bangladesh has been under tight security with reduced movement of people and goods. The increased measures are in response to ongoing unrest in Bangladesh. Despite the overall decline in trade, the border has facilitated the entry of several Bangladeshis into India for medical treatment. The unrest has led to a near-total halt in trade, impacting traders significantly. Border Security Force (BSF) Director General DS Chaudhary has visited the site, and on Tuesday, some Bangladeshis and Indians stranded in each other's countries managed to return home.
