'Nothing worthy of being probed': Jaishankar on India's involvement in Nijjar case
Monday, 13 May 2024 S Jaishankar on Monday said that India has not received any information that is specific and worthy of investigation by its probe agencies regarding the fourth arrest made by Canada in connection with the killing of Khalistan separatist and designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This comes following the arrest of Amardeep Singh, a 22-year-old resident of Brampton, Surrey, and Abbotsford areas in Canada on May 11.
India is considering mending ties with Canada after Mark Carney replaced Justin Trudeau as Liberal Party leader. Carney emphasized rebuilding India-Canada relations amid trade tensions with the U.S. The move follows a diplomatic freeze over Trudeau’s allegations of Indian involvement in Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s killing. Canada’s intelligence chief is set to visit India soon.
