39 flamingos killed as Emirates aircraft flies into flock near Mumbai

The incident brought back memories of US Airways's 2009 accident in which an A320 aircraft lost both its engines after it flew into a flock of migratory Canadian geese, which led to the famous Hudson river 'ditching'. Lesser flamingos, smallest of the species, weigh up to 1.5kg & fly at 40-60kmph when migrating long distances such as the journey, say, from Uran to Kutch, said Mrugank Prabhu, scientist at Bombay Natural History Society.
