TMC snatched rights of OBCs to facilitate its appeasement politics, 'vote jihad': PM Modi
Tuesday, 28 May 2024 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday flayed the TMC government in West Bengal for "snatching the rights of OBC youths" to facilitate its appeasement politics and “vote jihad”. Addressing an election rally in Barasat, Modi, without naming West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, criticised her for questioning the judges of the Calcutta High Court and wondered if the TMC would now “let loose its goons on judges" following unfavourable rulings.
Recent bypolls across seven Indian states resulted in significant gains for the opposition INDIA bloc, which won 10 out of 13 assembly seats. The Congress party secured victories in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while the Trinamool Congress swept all four seats in West Bengal. The BJP won two seats, including one in Madhya Pradesh. These results are seen as a boost for the opposition and may indicate shifting political dynamics ahead of future elections.

Former President Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Thomas Crooks fired five shots from an AR-15 rifle from a 120-yard distance. The incident highlighted critical security lapses compared to the SPG protocols for India's PM Modi, which include limited exposure and thorough sweeps. Footage revealed disorganised Secret Service personnel, insufficient Bullet-resistant shields, and Sniper protection. This event recalls the assassination of Japan's former PM Shinzo Abe and underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive review of security measures for political candidates.
