Fire destroys Gulmarg Shiva temple with Kashmir’s royal links

A 109-year-old Shiva temple, connected to Kashmir's former royal family, burned down in a dawn fire on Wednesday in the tourist town of Gulmarg, 55 kilometers from Srinagar. Constructed in 1915 by Mohini Bai Sisodia, the queen of Kashmir’s last king Maharaja Hari Singh, the temple—Mohinishwar Shivalaya Shiv Mandir, also known as Maharani temple—was perched on a hillock surrounded by meadows.
