In first Cabinet meet, aid to build 3 crore houses for poor approved

In its first Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Modi on Monday, the government approved a proposal to provide financial assistance for constructing three crore rural and urban houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). According to sources, the plan will involve an investment of approximately Rs 5 lakh crore. Under the urban component of PMAY, the government will provide Rs 2 lakh to each beneficiary household for constructing dwelling units or as an interest subsidy.
