Opposition campaign drives up sales of a little black-and-red book
Monday, 24 June 2024 () The leather-bound black and red book published by Lucknow-based Eastern Book Company (EBC) had grabbed limelight when it was frequently pulled out by opposition leaders, specially Rahul, in the Lok Sabha election rallies to claim that BJP would tamper with the Constitution if it returned to office. EBC publisher Sumeet Malik claims to have sold 5,000 copies in the last three months while the same number was sold in 2023. Recently, Malik also gifted a copy of the book to Union home minister Amit Shah.
Ranchi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was granted bail by the High Court in a land scam case, leading to his release from jail this morning. The court found that, prima facie, Soren is not guilty and is unlikely to commit another offense while on bail. His counsel, Arunabh Chowdhury, confirmed the bail was granted on a bond of ₹50,000 and two sureties of the same amount each. Soren, leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on January 31 on money laundering charges related to the acquisition of 8.86 acres of land in Ranchi. The court's decision followed earlier setbacks for Soren, including bail denials by both the Ranchi special court and the High Court, and the Supreme Court's refusal of interim bail.
