'May dissuade employers': SC refuses to entertain plea seeking menstrual leave for female employees
The Supreme Court declined to hear a petition that sought to establish menstrual leave for women in the workforce. Instead, the court directed the central government to consult with relevant stakeholders and state governments to develop a comprehensive policy addressing this issue. The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, acknowledged that while such a policy might encourage greater participation of women in the workforce, it could also have the unintended consequence of discouraging employers from hiring women.
