West Bengal minister who called official ‘beast’ resigns after furore

Bengal prisons minister Akhil Giri resigned after backlash over his derogatory remarks towards forest ranger Manisha Shaw. Despite his resignation, Giri refused to personally apologize. This was not his first controversy, as he had faced criticism in 2022 for comments about President Murmu. TMC state chief Subrata Bakshi demanded his resignation to avoid expulsion.
