By 2028, India's first bullet train is expected to run from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, passing under the ecologically sensitive Thane Creek. The project includes India's first undersea tunnel, a 7km portion of a 21km underground stretch. The pace of work has been faster in Gujarat than in Maharashtra, with the Gujarat section expected to be operational by 2027.
