Rape cases reduce in Mumbai, but molestation cases rise this year

In Mumbai, crimes against women slightly increased, from 3,488 incidents reported in Jan-July 2023 to 3,500 in the same period of 2024. There was a 5% rise in molestation and intended insult cases, while detection rates improved from 85% to 92%. Also, more women are reporting molestation cases, indicating heightened awareness.
