NITI Aayog to come out with a roadmap to achieve India's 2070 'net zero' emissions goal in November
Wednesday, 11 September 2024 () NITI Aayog CEO B V R Subrahmanyam highlighted India's commitment to climate-friendly growth and the continued role of fossil fuels in driving economic progress. He announced that NITI Aayog would release a roadmap for energy transition in November, targeting the 2070 'net zero' carbon emissions goal, to be presented at COP29 in Baku.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor says, "... Budget of health and education ministries have been reduced, so I asked them the reason. There is no politics in this. Two states have been given favourable treatment to satisfy their coalition partners. We know this is how it works and we also have the right to protest against it... I am happy for the people of Bihar for getting such a generous package. It is a very big deal... 3 Congress and 1 DMK Chief Minister said they would not attend the NITI Aayog meeting because there was nothing for their states in the budget... Maybe Mamata Banerjee has an issue which she wants to discuss..."
