'Operation Sadbhav': India sends aid to Myanmar, Vietnam, and Laos post Typhoon Yagi
Sunday, 15 September 2024 India has launched 'Operation Sadbhav' to provide emergency relief to Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam following Typhoon Yagi. The operation includes sending dry rations, clothing, medicines, water purification items, and other essential supplies via the Indian Navy and Air Force. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced the initiative on social media.
The UN is warning that as many as 630,000 people could be in need of assistance in Myanmar in the wake of Typhoon Yagi.
The storm swept across northern Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar more than a week ago with powerful winds and an enormous amount of rain, triggering floods and landslides.
Myanmar Earthquake: The death toll from Myanmar’s devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake has risen to 2,719, with officials warning it could surpass 3,000. Rescue teams are racing against time as over 4,500 people are injured and more than 400 remain missing. Experts say survival chances for those trapped under rubble dwindle with each passing day, making the next few days critical. Meanwhile, international aid groups, including teams from India, are rushing to provide food, water, and medical assistance to the worst-hit areas.
