Wednesday, 11 December 2024 () NCP's Sunetra Ajit Pawar, a first-time Rajya Sabha MP, has been allotted a Type-VII bungalow at 11 Janpath, New Delhi, across from Sharad Pawar's residence. This move is viewed as a sign of Ajit Pawar's growing influence as a Maratha leader after the recent Maharashtra assembly elections, where his NCP secured 49 seats as a BJP ally.
Eknath Shinde has stepped down as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra following the Mahayuti alliance’s resounding victory in the assembly elections. Shinde submitted his resignation to Governor C P Radhakrishnan, who requested him to serve as a caretaker CM until a successor is appointed.
The spotlight now shifts to the selection of the next chief minister, with BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis and Shinde both emerging as contenders. The BJP, which secured 132 seats to become the single-largest party, has bolstered its claim to the top post.
