Punjab govt seeks Centre's help to end impasse over farmers' protest
Friday, 3 January 2025 Punjab govt has urged Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's intervention in resolving the farmers' protest at the Punjab-Haryana border. In a letter, Punjab's agriculture minister highlighted the ongoing hunger strike by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal and sought actions aligned with the Supreme Court's directions.
A US military aircraft carrying 205 deported Indian immigrants, mostly from Punjab, is set to land in Amritsar this afternoon. Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal criticized the deportations, saying these individuals contributed to the US economy and deserved permanent residency. The Punjab government has set up counters at the airport to assist the returnees.
