Manipur tribal bloc ends NH2 blockade, with an 'ultimatum'
Sunday, 5 January 2025 The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) has lifted the economic blockade in Manipur, effective from Sunday 2am, which had halted traffic and essential supplies. They issued a 48-hour ultimatum for state government to withdraw CAPF personnel from Saibol, following violent clashes at year-end.
The Supreme Court has directed the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) to submit a forensic report on the alleged audio recording purportedly featuring Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. The tape, leaked online, allegedly implicates Singh in inciting ethnic violence and allowing Meitei groups to loot state armories.Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan, representing the petitioners, claims that an independent analysis by "Truth Labs" identified Singh's voice with over 93% certainty. The Centre, however, has opposed the allegations, arguing that the matter should have been addressed by the High Court.
