A powerful 7.1-magnitude earthquake struck Tibet's Tingri county on Tuesday, causing widespread devastation. At least 95 people have been confirmed dead, with more than 130 injured. The earthquake's epicenter, located near the Nepal border, rocked remote Himalayan villages and the holy city of Shigatse, around 180 km away. Tremors were felt in neighboring Nepal, Bhutan, and parts of northern India. Over 1,000 homes were damaged, and many areas have become inaccessible due to collapsed buildings and landslides. Rescue operations are underway, with over 200 soldiers deployed and 1,500 more on standby. Despite the ongoing efforts, aftershocks continue, complicating rescue efforts. Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged full-scale efforts to minimize casualties and provide shelter to those affected in freezing conditions.
