Delhi all set to finalise $450 million BrahMos cruise missiles deal
Saturday, 11 January 2025 () India is finalising a $450 million deal to export BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to Indonesia, making it the second ASEAN country after the Philippines to purchase them. Discussions have advanced despite budget constraints. India is also looking to export Akash air defence missile systems to countries like the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam amid China's aggressive actions in the Indo-Pacific.
In a significant step towards enhancing defense relations, Russia and India have agreed to further strengthen their military cooperation, including participation in joint exercises and strategic knowledge-sharing. This agreement, made during a meeting of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military-Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-M&MTC) in Moscow, is aimed at improving operational coordination between the two forces. The announcement comes just days ahead of Indian Minister of Defense Rajnath Singh's visit to Moscow, where he will hold high-level talks and commission a stealth frigate for the Indian Navy. This move further solidifies the longstanding defense partnership between India and Russia, which includes joint development of advanced military systems like the BrahMos cruise missile, the S-400 air-defense system, and more.
