Soldiers at Siachen glacier now have high-speed internet
Monday, 13 January 2025 () Reliance Jio, in collaboration with the Indian Army, has become the first telecom operator to extend 4G and 5G network connectivity to the Siachen glacier. Utilizing pre-configured, indigenous full-stack 5G technology, the deployment at 16,000 feet in extreme conditions at Siachen was made possible with significant logistical support from the Army.

Tragedy struck in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Tuesday evening when an Indian Army vehicle plunged into a 300-feet gorge along the Line of Control (LoC), resulting in the deaths of five soldiers. The incident occurred when the Army vehicle, belonging to the 11 Maratha Light Infantry, was en route from Nilam headquarters to Balnoi Ghora Post. The vehicle fell into the gorge, leaving 10 soldiers, including the driver, severely injured.
