Bail not a right for hardened criminals, clarifies top court

The Supreme Court of India on Thursday emphasised that the principle of 'bail is the rule, jail is the exception' does not apply to hardened criminals and gangsters accused of multiple heinous offences. The court highlighted the challenge of witness intimidation and the state's failure to provide adequate protection to witnesses.
