Monday, 17 February 2025
North India, including Delhi-NCR, experienced strong tremors early Monday morning when a 4.0 magnitude earthquake struck around 5.30am. The quake's epicenter was near Durgabai Deshmukh College in Dhaula Kuan, at a depth of 5 kilometers. Residents in high-rise buildings across Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad rushed outdoors in alarm, though no immediate damage or injuries were reported. A loud sound accompanying the tremor startled many in the region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to stay calm and follow safety precautions, as the region, located in Seismic Zone IV, frequently experiences minor earthquakes. Recent seismic activity includes a 7.2 magnitude quake on January 23 and a 6.1 magnitude quake on January 11.
