Mammoth 650-tonne tunnel boring machine completes epic 1,600-km journey from Tamil Nadu to Kolkata; here's why

A giant Indian-made tunnel boring machine has arrived in Kolkata to continue work on the underground section of the Metro's Purple Line. Despite land issues for Kidderpore station, tunnelling will proceed from Kidderpore to Park Street. Contractors L&T have started work and are producing tunnel ring segments locally. Most parts of the new TBMs were indigenously built.
