Mega Rs 64,000 crore deal for 26 Rafale-Marine jets cleared by CCS
Wednesday, 9 April 2025 () India's Cabinet Committee on Security has approved a nearly Rs 64,000 crore deal with France for 26 Rafale-Marine fighter jets for INS Vikrant. The agreement includes 22 single-seat and four twin-seat trainers, along with weapons and support. Delivery is expected within 37 to 65 months.
France is ramping up its defense strategy with plans to deploy nuclear-armed Rafale jets near the German border. President Emmanuel Macron announced a €1.5 billion upgrade to Luxeuil air base, which will house these advanced fighter jets equipped with hypersonic nuclear missiles by 2035. As tensions rise across Europe, this move has sparked concerns of a new arms race, with Russia warning the move could escalate regional instability. Is this a step toward stronger EU security or a dangerous gamble?
