Kolkata is unimaginable without misthi. The city is known for the numerous sweets that give it its unique identity. Can you imagine Kolkata without Roshogulla, Sondesh, Mishti Doi, Payesh and Pantua? The city has close to over a lakh sweet shops with many of them catering to the customers for decades. Most sweets in Kolkata are chhana or paneer based and Shandesh or Sondesh is what the city is known for. Light and melt-in-the mouth, the mishti is made by kneading and rubbing paneer with powdered sugar till it becomes light and creamy.
